A City Full of Culture
Ever wondered why Mexico is such a popular destination? I did too! So I had to find out myself. I must admit I watched too many movies, so I was a little nervous heading into this adventure, but I am glad I did not let my fears get to me lol.
We started our 7-day Mexico trip in Mexico City. By way, Uber works well, so it was easy to get from the airport to our hotel, which is about 20 – 30 mins away from the hotel.
We stayed at the St Regis Mexico City. They have such an amazing staff and the vibe is definitely warm and welcoming. Just FYI, this trip took place in February as part of my birthday celebration; so they surprised me with a beautiful rose bouquet, chocolate, and rose petals on the floor that led to the tub. It certainly made me feel special!
Now let’s talk about Xochimilco
In the south of Mexico City, a network of canals weaves through a series of man-made islands in Xochimilco, the so-called “Venice of the New World.” Xochimilco, meaning “where the flowers grow,” is aptly named for its chinampas or floating gardens. Farmers constructed reed rafts on the lake, slathered them with mud, and cultivated fruits, vegetables, and flowers on the water. Over time, the gardens rooted and became islands. On weekends, trajineras, brightly decorated flat-bottom boats, carry passengers through the canals. Small boats also navigate the waterways, delivering drinks and snacks to lively passengers. The floating city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987—the only remaining example of traditional pre-Hispanic land use of the lagoons in Mexico City.

Who visits Mexico city and does not go to the city itself?
There are vibrant colorful buildings all around with live music and amazing people everywhere. You can definitely get a sense of the culture. My advice is just to wander around and you’ll surely be amazed! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to experience the Teotihuacan Pyramids due to covid, but check it out if you can!

I did not get to experience any of the amazing street food I had heard about but the hotel food was pretty good! I have added street food tasting to my list for future travel to Mexico City.
We spent our last night at the Sofitel. The staff there too were amazing. I was able to enjoy their beautiful pool with amazing sunset. The view from the restaurant was amazing too. I will defiantly recommend it!
