My recent trip to Zanzibar was a mix of highs and lows, centered around stays at two newly opened hotels: Bamboo Zanzibar and Hotel Kwanza. Here’s my honest take on both experiences.
Bamboo Zanzibar: A Work in Progress
Bamboo Zanzibar, while showing potential, left me with mixed feelings. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the BBQ experience – a culinary delight that tantalized my taste buds with its amazing flavors. However, the overall food options fell short of my expectations, which was disappointing for a tropical getaway.
The hotel seemed to be still finding its footing, evident from the occasional power outages we experienced. While understandable for a new establishment, it did impact the comfort of our stay. Despite these hiccups, the hotel showed promise and with some improvements, could become a great option for travelers.
Overall rating for Bamboo Zanzibar: 7/10
Hotel Kwanza: A Pleasant Surprise
In contrast, Hotel Kwanza was a delightful discovery. Also newly opened, this hotel seemed to have nailed the essentials right from the start. The food options were diverse and satisfying, catering to various tastes and dietary needs.
The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, providing a relaxing retreat after days of exploration. What truly set Hotel Kwanza apart was its staff – their warmth and attentiveness significantly enhanced our stay.
Perfect for families, Hotel Kwanza offered a well-rounded experience that left us thoroughly impressed.
Overall rating for Hotel Kwanza: 9/10
Final Thoughts
My Zanzibar adventure showcased the importance of choosing the right accommodation. While Bamboo Zanzibar has potential and offers a fantastic BBQ experience, it still has some wrinkles to iron out. On the other hand, Hotel Kwanza emerged as a hidden gem, perfect for those seeking a family-friendly stay with great amenities and service.
When planning your Zanzibar getaway, consider your priorities and do your research. Sometimes, the lesser-known options can surprise you with their excellence!
